all this crafty cleaning has got me sooooo inspired to make things, i don't know where to start! i still need to finish cleaning, so it will be a little while before i actually start making anything.... more ideas for local ladies craft nights: i'm up for trying anything, as soon as this heat goes away... Mon, Aug. 17th, 2009, 09:33 am happy monday!
i'm back to work, perhaps just for the morning...i'm expecting some packages that i missed on friday, so as soon as they come i'll go home to check on jerry. speaking of jerry, he's doing well! he ended up having 3 procedures done, when most people just get one or two, so it was a longer surgery and a slightly longer recovery. to celebrate his recovery, he's planning a trip to the Boston Harbor Islands on Sunday, so if you can join him he would be super excited. (I know he already mentioned it to some folks). more details soon. while in the waiting room, i worked on these two projects: they are both with both with the same yarn...it helps me with my inability to stay on task with a project. there's actually a surprise about these, but i'll wait until they are done to let you in on the secret. my craft room reorganization is going REALLY well. when i had my whole sick thing two years ago, i kind of threw everything in there and just stopped. i still make things, but not to the extent that I used to. I was in the middle of Renegade prep, and had all my supplies ready to go...when i started sewing again, i kind of forgot and bought all new stuff. i uncovered like 200 zippers, all these barrettes, and a ton of other things. yesterday was quite fun! like shopping without spending any money. i also found all my get well cards, and it was so nice to sit and read them all again. if i never thanked you before, thank you. i was heavily medicated, so i dont remember much! i found my "farewell gall bladder" drawing that i often joke about getting tattooed. i'll scan it later to share with you all! hope you all had a wonderful weekend! i miss the outdoors, but the cleaning has to get done.
i'm preparing for 72 hours of not being able to leave the house. jerry's got his surgery tomorrow (septoplasty and turbinate reduction), and it isn't going to be fun. i've got a ton of stuff to do around the house, so its ok. i just ran to ikea & target to get some last minute things to help make it through the weekend. Coraline for Jerry and some organizational items for me. i love that ikea is SO close i can just run over the to pick up crap whenever i need it. i totally got sucked in by these new pillows BUTTONS!
any time i find some free time, i quilt. these are loosely based on this, but much smaller. each is about 10 inches across. i made a little pattern in illustrator, made the rings, then surprised myself by inventing a little plan to turn the inside edges in and sew a white circle to the back. if you haven't yet, sign up for mary's quilting bee. this would be an awesome start to quilting for some of you (SARAH?? you should join with me, marissa, and megan!)
but why? my mind is already at walden pond... ( Read more... ) Fri, Aug. 7th, 2009, 09:19 am finished!
all done! i'm going to just fix some ends, wash it, and send it off to the recipient! i'll post full sized pictures when i know it has been received Fri, Aug. 7th, 2009, 08:51 am quilting bee!
carryboo is starting up another quilting bee for anyone interested! it is a lot of fun, for not much work! each month, you receive packages of fabric that you sew into two quilt squares. some people are real specific with their instructions, some are very loose about what you do. then, when its your month, you send out your fabric and instructions. in a few weeks, you get back a stack of blocks to assemble! here's the group mary and i are currently in: http://www.flickr.com/groups/986429@N20/i'm receiving the red and white blocks here's an assembled group of lots of quilting bees: http://www.flickr.com/groups/quiltingbeeblocks/you should join! TWO BLOCKS a month, that's SO little work! Thu, Aug. 6th, 2009, 11:40 am squash
some kind of squash from the farm share...anyone know what it is? i think its a summer squash, the skin seems very thin. also got: eggplant green peppers onions beets tomatoes cucumbers mint lettuce collards beans watermelon blueberries and eggs!
local folks, we need to get together on a regular basis for fun crafting (i.e. not fair prep). i propose the following group crafts:
- letterpress - silkscreening (4 color press over here...) - sock knitting - quilting - crocheting - embroidery - paper cutting
anything else to add? i suspect we need to wait until swimming weather is behind us. Wed, Jul. 29th, 2009, 02:42 pm blah
my pickles are mushy :(
Scallions Dill Cilantro Tomato (they really do give you just one tomato. too much rain and too many blights this year) Swiss Chard Cabbage (i wonder if i can just add this to the sauerkraut i'm making?) Sweet Corn (YES!!!) Rainbow Carrots Cucumbers (SOUR PICKLES HERE WE COME!) Summer Squash/ Zucchini (seriously? MORE of this crap???) Lettuce Raspberries and maybe Watermelon! |
